SAFE SPACES brings together the imaginative worlds of Japanese contemporary artist Atsushi Kaga and the rich visual tradition of medieval illuminated manuscripts from Les Enluminures. Though separated by centuries, both share intimate scales, luminous colour, gold leaf, fantastical creatures, and immersive visual storytelling. Kaga’s beloved rabbit alter ego, Usacchi, inhabits an alternate universe that resonates with the playful marginal imagery of medieval manuscripts, where hybrid beings, animals, and comic scenes come to life. Together, these works invite visitors into imaginative "safe spaces" that offer moments of reflection and wonder.
